VEGAN SHOWS YOU NEED TO SEE
These are in no particular order and I know you can google them all but I thought I would list some that I have either watched or ones that are positively reviewed and causing an impact. However, be warned, some of these may be graphic to view. I found Earthlings and Meet your meat to be the most upsetting to google image. More of a reason to watch, so you can understand!
1. ROTTEN
This is a show on Netflix which shows you about the stuff you put in your mouth. It really is rated highly and is not about veganism but about food and the food industry as a whole. I actually won't lie to you, I haven't watched it because I do get very cautious about these types of shows as any sort of animal cruelty will set me off crying for the next week. However I don't think this show does have any of that, as I have read reviews and looked over clips briefly. It is a bit gross so don't eat while you watch but if you eat food on the daily, which you most likely do, then give this show a watch.
2. COWSPIRACY
This show, also on Netflix, gives insight into the environment and how cattle are used and treated in the world. It is a documentary that shows issues such as global warming, the effects of agriculture, ocean dead zones, deforestation, pollution and water use and lists animal agriculture as the main reason for the downfall of the environment we live in. Leonardo DiCaprio also co-produced the most recent version, if you're a Leo fan I thought you might like to know that fact.
3. WHAT THE HEALTH
Another show found on Netflix, which focuses on our dairy consumption and the negative impacts it has and also how meat is detrimental to our well-beings. It's main goal is to advocate a vegetarian or vegan based diet. The show has been criticized for 'cherry picking' facts and ideas, however this doesn't mean it isn't true.
4. FORKS OVER KNIVES
This show is focused on the fact meat and processed food diets cause extreme health issues and degenerative diseases. They show 'reality patients' who are real people who are unwell and put a plant based diet as a remedy to the test and follow their journey throughout. It was also filmed not just in the US and Canada but also China.
5. EARTHLINGS
This is a film about animals being commodities and accessories to us as humans and how we abuse them in all different forms of life, sometimes without even realising, such as the pet trade, entertainment and scientific research. They focus on pet shops and puppy mills using hidden cameras to grab real life footage from these places. It brings racism, sexism and speciesism into perspective and compares them.
6. MEET YOUR MEAT
This is narrated by Alec Baldwin and was a documentary released in 2002 run by PETA to show how factory farming works. The film is only 12 minutes and presents cruelty to animals within the industries everyone argues 'are humane' and that 'vegans only look at the bad, illegal things', which is evidently not true. The show also notably influenced the chain of Burger King to adapt more humane policies regarding their meat.
7. CARNAGE
The film is set in the year 2067 where veganism is the mainstream normality and the film depicts those people looking back at our time today and how we consumed animals. It has been shown to be a comedy but also has a message of how we should really be paying attention to the inhumane industries you could possibly be purchasing from, but also just how animal based diets really do cause us health issues.
8. EATING OUR WAY TO EXTINCTION
This is a short documentary showing the current health epidemic, the way we are destroying nature and the causes of deforestation and the lies and darkness that lie within the meat and dairy industry. Leonard DiCaprio makes a reappearance in this as well, as said earlier he was in a previous documentary, and there are many other researchers, scientists and celebrities all in on the documentary.
