MY ADVICE FOR YOU ABOUT YOUR HAIR
As many of you might know, I have been through nearly every colour you can have for your hair aside from green, yellow and brunette...surprisingly. I also have had a number of hair styles, including shaving nearly 3/4 of my hair off at the sides. I feel like I'm allowed to give some tips on how to try and keep your hair in tact if you're serious about colouring your hair. I also did SFX hair and makeup, (not that I was any good at the hair aspect), but I still did it!
1) USE SEMI PERMANENT DYE
This might seem obvious to some people, however it was never that obvious to me. I always wanted the most pigmented colour and for it to last a long time, if I did happen to keep it...which I never did. Permanent dye penetrates the hair shaft and damages it, splitting it all the way up and creating split ends as well as killing the hair. Semi permanent only wraps the hair shaft, causing much less damage than permanent. If you want you could just do a tone or mild wash in, wash out dye which is much better for your head, but most of us don't dye our hair with the anticipation of spending money all the time on re-dying your head. In the image below I used a silver hair mask which I found to be really good and still have.
4. CUT YOUR DAMAGED HAIR
I never hesitated to cut my hair off, but it is a really intimidating thought. I actually wanted more off when I got it cut to above my shoulders, but I am very scissor-happy. My hair was down to nearly my waist but the damage that the colour had caused was too obvious for me to keep my hair anymore. I also was sick of it, it was too hot, I sat on it, hair went everywhere and it took 2 days to fully dry. But if you are keeping your hair because of the length, which I had a friend do for ages and then she cut it and didn't regret it, then please don't because it really is quality over quantity.
And finally, 5. NEVER CUT A FRINGE IF YOU HAVE A SMALL FOREHEAD.
Believe me, this is one of the only decent photos I have of mine.

2. DO NOT BLEACH YOUR HAIR FROM DARK TO LIGHT IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME
This, again, might seem really obvious, but that didn't stop me. I knew I was wrecking my hair but I wanted to go from dark to blonde and I wanted it right then and there. I really loved my first time dying my hair a dark cherry colour, but the second time I thought I was dying my hair brown, it turned out deep black, hence my introduction saying I have never had true brown hair. I decided to bleach it out and went platinum within a week with no hair care or anything. Please don't do this, it honestly isn't worth it. I know the orange stage is shit and it takes forever and hair care is expensive but if you are insisting on doing your hair at home make sure you really try to take your time.
3. IF YOU SHAVE YOUR HEAD, MAKE SURE YOU STYLE THE REGROWTH
This clearly is not going to apply to anyone I know, but if you decide to reach for the shears then heed what I say...make sure you style your regrowth. By the time my hair was growing out it was creating wing like licks on the sides of my head, and my hair was totally ruined, falling out and looked like straw. I tried to style my regrowth a little but I never liked to use product in my hair as it made it looks worse considering the damage. As I worked with animals and the time I always had my hair up, making the sides really obvious. I really got frustrated with it as it wasn't in the right condition and I didn't have any other hair to hide it with, as I had shaved from the very front temples of my head to near the nape of my neck. I grew my hair out and it took me a year to reach my shoulders which I don't think is that long from being totally to-the-skin bald.
