EDINBURGH | OCT 2017
Me and my boyfriend Luke went to Scotland in October of 2017, to Edinburgh to be precise. I had been to Scotland when I was 3 but funnily enough I can't remember that. I was pleased to be going and we had first class seats on both train journeys which made the experience far more peaceful. The scenery on the way up was really pretty and I found it interesting to see all the train stations all the way up North that I probably won't ever be at.
We didn't go to inside Edinburgh castle which was a shame but it was closed when we went for some reason. We did however go to Edinburgh Zoo which was really good and really interesting to see all the animals. I did try to make sure the zoo was ethical as I always do and I believe it hasn't got any issues. We did see 2 sunbears which had been rescued from abuse in Romania so I was really pleased to see them living their life in the zoo free from torture.
It also makes me sound really dumb but I totally forgot that Scots have different money to us, so it was cool to use that...I'm lame I know.
We also visited Edinburgh Museum which was really interesting and had loads of different areas dedicated to different points in time. I couldn't help but do the annoying English thing but think of Braveheart as I went through some of it, and I know the film is highly inaccurate but the area presenting the Scottish fight for freedom was so inspiring and really amazing to see the passion behind the artifacts.
There was also a really amazing nature section and they had made this incredible nature scene with all these animals and plants, they looked so real, they even did the little bubbles going up for the otter in the water! We also saw the real Dolly the sheep who was stuffed and put in the science area. It was so weird seeing her inside the box but still she is a worldwide phenomena!

We also went to Mary King's Close which is a hidden tourist attraction. It is a warren of 17th century preserved streets and homes. It's so crazy to go in and see the ceiling still has horse hair in it! They also had areas which were decaying but it was so amazing to see the reality of life then. They didn't allow photos or videos inside so sadly I can't show that, although we did get a photo printed of me and Luke whilst we were there which they do specially. It was so cool to go and experience it, I hadn't heard of it before but Luke had wanted to go for ages. We went to the Beehive Inn afterwards and watched the Anthony Joshua vs. Carlos Takam boxing fight. Scots are quite energetic when they're drunk to say the least!! We also visited the outside of Edinburgh University which was awesome as I have always wished I could go there.
After that we just walked around the city which was really cool and we visited St. Giles' Cathedral which was so stunning. We, again, couldn't take photos inside without paying them but I didn't know until after I had taken a few! There were cars parked everywhere so unfortunately the photos aren't as scenic as I liked.
We did encounter a lot of Halloween costumes and parties as we did go that weekend, and we also saw a lot of football fans returning from a game. The drinking problem in Scotland is extremely obvious, all you saw were cans and bottles littering the streets. Scotland actually isn't too dirty litter wise but the alcohol consumption was insane. At least for me it was...We also did go up to the top outside the castle which was really pretty.
I hope you liked reading about Scotland on our little weekend away. We stayed in the Haymarket area which was really nice. I really would recommend going if you want to, it's a really beautiful place. If you want to stay up to date on my blog add me to your reading list or bookmark my URL!
